Apple has reportedly enhanced iPhone trade-in program, which allow users to receive credit for “damaged displays, cameras, and buttons” are “within reason.” Apparently, only damaged iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus units will be accepted. It’s said that a broken iPhone 5s will get you a $50 credit, while broken iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models could get you at least $200 or $250, respectively. 9to5Mac notes that this upgraded trade-in program should be launched this week (most likely, only in the US – at least for the beginning)....

Now, the European Union (EU) has officially signed its USB-C legislation into law and set an official deadline for mobile manufacturers to adopt USB-C as a single charging port for all electronic devices sold in the EU from December 2024. According to a newly published directive, the new EU law will go into effect on December 27, 2022. This means mobile devices sold in the EU by manufacturers, including Apple will have to include a USB-C port by December 28, 2024....

Now a Chinese consumer rights group has said enough is enough and filed a lawsuit against smartphone manufacturers Samsung and Oppo. The lawsuit was filed by Shanghai Consumer Rights Protection Commission on Thursday against Samsung and Oppo, two of the biggest smartphone sellers in China, over their practice of pre-installing apps on their smartphones. The lawsuit alleges that several smartphone models sold by both companies came with pre-installed apps that the consumers could not remove, and which, in some cases also “stole” cellular data....
