Here’s how to fix the iOS 9 update stuck at ‘Slide to Upgrade’ screenHow To Solve iOS 9 ‘Slide To Upgrade’ Issue

Users faced quite a few problems with the iOS 9 software update such as getting the “Software Update failed” error or the update process getting stuck at “Update Requested,” while some hitting a wall with the “Slide to Upgrade” screen after updating to iOS 9. Apple’s forums were filled with complaints from users stating that their device prompts them to Slide to Upgrade, but it is not allowing them to do so. To deal with this matter, Apple has created a new page on its Product Support website explaining a few simple steps to help users overcome this issue. Though the process is not complex, it does require the users to connect to a computer with iTunes.

How To Solve iOS 9 ‘Slide To Upgrade’ Issue

First, users will have to connect their iOS device to a PC or Mac running iTunes using a USB cable. In the top left corner of iTunes, a device list will appear with each device having its respective icon. Select your connected device from this list.

If the connected device does not appear on this list, conduct a force restart operation. To do so, press and hold the sleep/wake and home buttons simultaneously for at least 10 seconds. A successful force restart will result in an Apple logo being displayed on the screen.

Then, the next step is to restore the backup. Before attempting to upgrade your device to iOS 9, if you have made an iTunes backup, you can use the same backup to restore your device. Or else, click the Back Up Now button to make a backup of your device in iTunes and restore from that backup. A separate page on Apple’s support website explains how to create a backup in iTunes.

Apple will be rolling out a permanent fix in the future iOS update. Please note that this method may not work if your device is protected with ‘Find My iPhone’. In this case, you should likely seek official Apple Support. But, before doing so, try logging in to iCloud.com and removing your device from the ‘Find my iPhone’ portal. However, if this does not help, please call AppleCare or visit an Apple Store.
