Mr. Musk plans to make millions by selling the robot in near future for a price tag of $20,000. During the event, the robot walked up to people and waved his hand but no complex movement or task was showcased as musk stated that he, “didn’t want it to fall on its face.”
— Tesla (@Tesla) October 1, 2022 During the event Musk stated that, “Our goal is to make a useful humanoid robot as quickly as possible,” he further added, “Optimus is designed to be an extremely capable robot made in very high volume, probably ultimately millions of units, and is expected to cost much less than a car.” Some of the technology (including camera tech) available on Teslas is being used in the robots now. Musk wants the Robots to complete basic tasks like going to the store and buying groceries. During the start of the event Musk stated that, “We’re going to talk about the advancements in AI for Full Self-Driving, as well as how they apply more generally to real-world AI problems like a humanoid robots and even going beyond that. I think there’s some potential that what we’re doing here at Tesla could make a meaningful contribution to AGI [artificial general intelligence].”
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) October 1, 2022 Later after the event Musk jokingly tweeted that, there will be a catgirl version of our Optimus robot. For those unaware, Elon Musk previously co-founded (and later quit) an artificial intelligence venture called OpenAI. Back in 2015, OpenAI claimed that it had trained neural networks to enable a robot hand to solve a Rubik’s Cube puzzle.
